Job Title: Streets Foreman                                                     FLSA: Hourly/Non-Exempt

Department: Public Infrastructure                                       Reports to: General Foreman

Salary Range: $20.03 - $23.55

General Purpose:

Under the general supervision of the Streets General Foreman and performs, supervises, and participates in activities of workers engaged in various phases of construction, maintenance and repair of city bridges, streets, storm sewers and other structures. This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to random drug testing. Safety sensitive positions must comply to federal regulations where marijuana still remains illegal. Possession of a medical marijuana license does not exempt safety sensitive positions from federal regulations. Should one of these safety sensitive positions test positive on a drug test and lose the ability to perform within the job description outline, the City of Claremore will implement the zero tolerance policy resulting in immediate termination.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervises activities of workers engaged in preparing and applying concrete for fabrication, covering and reinforcing structures, such as bridges, roads, culverts, storm sewers and others.

  • Performs other duties as assigned including but not limited to all locate calls, consultation and advice on various engineering principles and supervision of crews.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

Employee must have the ability to competently use the following:  Calculator; phone; radio; and copy machine; motorized vehicles and equipment including pickup truck, dump truck, dozer, loader, scraper, laydown machine, roller, track loader, generator, chain saw, line tracer, Backhoe, tamper, plate compactor, cement saws, pumps, common and power hand tools, shovels, wrenches, tractor, brush hog, box blade, ditchwitch and various other tools used in the industry.  Other necessary abilities include:

  • Skilled in planning, organizing and controlling the work of others, in grading and clearing.

  • Knowledge of the operation and functions of as assigned phase of road repair, maintenance or construction; of operational policies and procedures; of special methods, techniques, materials and equipment peculiar to various assigned phases of operations; of supervisory principles and practices.

  • Ability to deal tactfully with others; to understand and read “cut sheets” and blue prints; to organize and present facts and opinions clearly and concisely; to perform heavy physical work.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent

  • 3-5 years of experience in all phases of road maintenance, construction, and repair work, with demonstrated supervisory ability.

  • Previous experience in the interpretation of construction plans and specifications.

  • Valid Oklahoma State Driver License Class “B” CDL with air brakes endorsement.

  • Must be insurable by city’s insurance carrier.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions.  The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration.  The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk or electrical shock.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
