Job Title: Sanitation Driver                                                FLSA: Hourly/Non-Exempt

Department: Sanitation                                                       Reports to: Sanitation Superintendent

Salary Range: $16.13 -$17.64

General Purpose:

Under the general supervision of the performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled work and operates a variety of equipment, in the collection of solid wastes. This is an entry level position. This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to random drug testing. Safety sensitive positions must comply to federal regulations where marijuana still remains illegal. Possession of a medical marijuana license does not exempt safety sensitive positions from federal regulations. Should one of these safety sensitive positions test positive on a drug test and lose the ability to perform within the job description outline, the City of Claremore will implement the zero tolerance policy resulting in immediate termination.

            Exercised - None

            Received – Works under the general supervision of the Sanitation Director.

Essential Duties:

  • Operates collection vehicle, conducts a daily inspection of tire air pressure, hydraulic pressure, air tanks, hydraulic fluids, transmission fluids, power steering, lights and other critical parts of a solid waste collection vehicle prior to the execution of the daily tasks. Makes special collection as assigned. Drives vehicle to sanitary landfill or compost facility and unloads collection vehicle. Responds to complaints as the curb; resolves complaints within scope of authority; explains actions to foreman
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School graduate, or equivalent preferred
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid Oklahoma State driver’s license
  • Must have State of Oklahoma Class “B” CDL, with air brake endorsement
  • Must be insurable by City’s insurance carrier.

Knowledge: Working knowledge of equipment, methods and procedures used in solid waste and recyclable collection activities.

Abilities: Come to work on time, follow directions, be honest and dependable, maintain safe work environment, be cooperative, have a positive attitude, be courteous and considerate team member, manage time effectively, concentrate on work, recognize problems and find solutions. Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time

Skill: Skills in operation of some of the listed tools and equipment

Tools & Equipment:

Motorized vehicles and equipment, including packer truck, flatbed collection truck, utility truck, hydraulic lifts, common hand tools, chipper, chain saws of various sizes, power tools, pitch fork, wrenches, mobile or portable radio.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and smell.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 65 pounds and must be able to safely push up to a 400 pound container.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions.  The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts, frequently is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration.  The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and is frequently exposed to changing traffic conditions that could be hazardous at times.  The employee is at risk of exposure to communicable diseases while handling refuse.

The noise level in the work environment is usually noisy.
